About us

Indian classical music

Indian classical music is a rich tradition that originated in South Asia and is now heard in every corner of the world. Its origins go back to the sacred Vedic scriptures, where chants developed a system of musical notes and rhythmic cycles.

It is closely connected to nature, taking inspiration from the seasons and the times of day to create ragas (musical moods) and taals (time cycles). Compositions are fixed, but most of the music is improvised within the structure of notes and rhythm, so every artist and every performance is unique.

The music is traditionally passed down orally: the student spends many years with the guru, building a special, spiritual bond and absorbing the music along with the philosophical and moral principles that shape them for life.

Bring music to life

The art of rhythm and sound

Music combines rhythm and sound into a melodic line. It transcends time, space and cultures, carries a mood without a single word, and can be written down in a universal language of its own. Musicians use creativity to organise sounds and tones into a unified composition.
